Borough Presidents Discuss Future Development

In a forum hosted by Crain’s, the five borough presidents of New York City made a joint appearance last week, where they discussed their visions for future development in their respective boroughs. Four of the presidents are brand new to their office, and though they only play an advisory role in the land use review, their opinions are influential; a borough president can potentially cultivate or extinguish a project.

As we did last time, we did some research on the data of closed sales and compiled this list of the most expensive buildings based on average price per square foot. 

Qatar to buy Wildenstein Headquarters: Could be NYC’s Most Expensive Purchase

Distinguished international art dealers, the Wildenstein family, are set to sell their Upper East Side headquarters/townhouse. The limestone fronted building, located on 19 East 64th Street, was constructed in the depression era in 1929 and opened as a gallery in 1932. This sale is slated to be the most expensive sale in NYC, since the $88 million dollar penthouse purchased in 2011 by the daughter of a Russian fertilizer tycoon. This property was not listed, but had an unofficial asking price of $125 million.

One Riverside Park Completes Riverside South Neighborhood

One Riverside Park, the last of the exclusively residential developments of the Riverside South site, is now open for sales. The Upper West Side luxury condominium brings 219 new units to the Hudson River waterfront.

The Apthorp Penthouse Additions Not Good Enough for LPC

Developers of The Apthorp, an Upper West Side icon, have been attempting to bring new penthouses to the roof of the landmarked building since last year, and now Area Property Partners will have to put off the potential addition a little longer. Yesterday, a meeting was held with the Landmarks Preservation Commission, and its back to the drawing board for Area Property Partners.

But 2014 means a new mayor is running New York City, and with Bill de Blasio, Gracie Mansion will welcome its first full time mayor since Rudy Giuliani.

A day in the life of Sir Paul McCartney apparently involves searching for a new home on the Upper East Side. The former Beatle was reportedly seen looking at a four-bedroom on the 16th floor of 1049 Fifth Avenue.
