West End Avenue’s Sublime Charm

845 West End Avenue

When renowned architect Rosario Candela designed 915 West End Avenue in 1922,  it was designed in classic and elegant harmony with the rest of the stately, regal facades on the leafy riverside esplanade. Almost a century later, the stretch of the Upper West Side near Riverside Park is still a wondrously sublime respite from the usual cacophony of city life.

With the news that Candela’s Renaissance Revival rental building is getting a condo conversion, there’s yet another classic choice for investing in real estate here. 43 of the units will turn condo, with a projected sellout totalling $146 million. And since the Riverside-West End Historic District has expanded to cover West 94th Street to 108th Street, the facade of 915 West End Avenue, located between West 104th and 105th Streets, will be historically maintained.

Just two blocks south is 845 West End Avenue, another elegant example of the Upper West Side’s classic Manhatten pre-war architecture renovated to maintain its classic charm while being thoroughly modern.

The condo building is separated into an east and west wing, with three residences per floor, each with their own private elevator. The homes feature Herringbone oak flooring, central air, and double-glazed thermopane windows. Thoroughly renovated kitchens are appointed with Bosch appliances, Liebherr refrigerators, Pietre Estruche tile floors, polished nickel Watermark fixtures, and limestone cabinetry. Bathrooms feature custom vanities, radiant heated flooring, and marble mosaic tiling. The amenities at 845 West End Avenue include a 24-hour doorman and live-in super, fitness center, and children’s playroom. Two bedrooms begin at $3,220,000.

Located a bit further down, between West 88th and 89th Streets, is 595 West End Avenue, a classic pre-war converted condo building designed to evoke European style-luxury and old world charm. Celebrated interior designer Sean Johnson used intricate tiling, rich wood, and meticulous finishes to evoke the luxurious warmth of classic Manhattan. Residences feature floor-to-ceiling windows, dark stained walnut flooring, built-in washer/dryers, walk-in closets, state-of-the-art kitchens with stainless steel GE Profile appliances and mosaic tiling, and marble bathrooms with Bianca Carrara floors, brushed chrome fixtures, and Zuma soaking tubs.

595 West End Avenue offers an amenities package featuring doorman and concierge services, fitness center, children’s playroom, conference room, and storage.
