Two new skyscrapers are coming to the Upper West Side.
Over the years, residents of Manhattan's gorgeous Upper West Side neighborhood have been incredibly protective of its natural, historic beauty—so it's always intriguing when new buildings are approved for construction—and now, two new condominium skyscrapers are in preparation stages, which will replace two synagogues by Lincoln Center.
In July of 2015, Extell purchased three office buildings that were formerly home to employees of the Walt Disney Company for $85 million. According to TDR, they then purchased an adjacent lot was that was formerly occupied by the synagogue of Congregation Habonim—and the sale went down for a whopping $45 million. Rumors indicate that Extell plans on building an incredible new condo high rise that not only features a 25 story, 185,000 square foot residential tower, but also a great new home for Congregation Habonim at the base.
The other new development is planned to be a 51 story, 112 unit tower that will be among the tallest residential buildings in the Upper West Side. The higher floors are said to have stunning views of both Central Park and the Hudson River. The building, which is planned by Steven Pozycki and Mitsui Fudosan America, will intend to cater to those families from the suburbs who may be looking to downsize from their existing homes and wish to move into the city.
