The Changing Reputation of Murray Hill

The neighborhood of Murray Hill has long been known as the post-grad playground. Because of its slightly cheaper home prices than most areas in NYC, recent college graduates tend to flock to this area. Murray Hill, which spans roughly 85 blocks, has around 41,500 residents, many of which are recent college graduates and young professionals. Though a reasonably priced area and quiet oasis, its reputation generally kept away families and older generations. In recent years, however, there has been a huge change in the demographics of the area. Many families with young children appear to be moving to and remaining in this area, and this change has not gone unnoticed by longtime residents.

Best Coffee Shops in Murray Hill

Summer has descended on New York City, which means that this is the time when most of us replace our steaming hot cups of coffee with cooler alternatives. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you have to give up on your daily caffeine fix—you’ll be glad to know that the city’s cafés serve a good variety of chilled coffee concoctions as well. We headed to Murray Hill to find the neighborhood’s best establishments for cold (or hot, if you so prefer!) coffee—here are our top three picks:

With all the intricacy that we see in the Morgan Library’s architecture and interior designs, we can only conclude that we’ve only seen half of what makes this location such an invaluable edifice. Can you imagine that the actual collection held in all the locations mentioned above actually value more than the building itself?

Five Classier Joints in Murray Hill

Murray Hill is perhaps the only district in Manhattan that eludes the ‘trendy’ tag that almost always comes with the territory of a youthful population. An influx of recent college graduates has brought with it a penchant for late-night libation, in celebration of no one and nothing in particular. Despite the masses of post-grads, Murray Hill still plays host and caters to a range of tastes and cultures, and features some of the finer cocktail lounges and bars the city has to offer – more than suitable to accommodate anyone wanting to escape the buzzing street scenes and still enjoy a night out on the town.

You Age Well, Murray Hill

Home to many of the diplomatic missions of the United Nations, Murray Hill has long been known for its residential dwellings. Mid-rise buildings provide a decent view of the street life, while allowing the neighborhoods select high-rise the opportunity to give its residents the perfect view of New York City and the East River. It is a very quiet neighborhood, with statistics that prove Murray Hill to be one of the safest in New York City itself. Lastly, with its cheaper rent, Murray Hill is quickly becoming a popular to residents looking for a safe, quiet, and fun place to live in.

Apartments For One: What NYC Neighborhoods Are Best For Singles?

At a certain level, the question of which Manhattan neighborhood is best for singles is kind of a silly one. Silly because, New York being New York, just about every Manhattan neighborhood is a pretty good Manhattan neighborhood in which to be single. But, of course, there are degrees of goodness -- which means that singles hunting for their own NYC studios or one-bedroom apartments might do well to check out a new study from the New York Daily News that uses a simple formula to ascertain which Manhattan neighborhoods are best for solo NYC apartment-hunters. Besides, you know, all of them. "Factors that played an important role in ranking these neighborhoods are the numbers of restaurants, bars, nightclubs, health clubs, culture, the population of young people in the area, median age and crime figures," Jason Sheftell explains in the Daily News. "Education, family-oriented factors and price were not heavy factors, although affordability was considered."

What Can Prosciutto Do For You? Murray Hill Condos, Mario Batali and "The Eataly Bump"

Eatily and Murray Hill CondosWe've written several times in the past about NoMad, which is the not-so-convincing but also not-so-bad name given to the rising neighborhood on the fringes of Murray Hill and Gramercy Park. We wrote about NoMad not because we're lovers of real estate conjuncto-neologisms -- although, of course, who isn't? -- but because it's actually a really interesting young neighborhood, and home to a couple of very promising luxury condo listings in Twenty 9th Park Madison and Sky House. More importantly, though, NoMad has a real buzz about it, thanks in large part to destination hangouts like Ace Hotel. To say that Eataly, the blockbuster new Mario Batali-helmed Italian food emporium, has become one of NoMad's signature landmarks is a huge understatement. Eataly, in just a few short months in business, has helped make NoMad one of Manhattan's hottest food neighborhoods -- and boosted this sub-neighborhood's fortunes even higher. Especially among those of us who enjoy prosciutto.
