Ice, Ice, Baby: Murray Hill’s Best Cafés For Cold (and Hot) Coffee

Posted on Tue, 06-25-2013

Summer has descended on New York City, which means that this is the time when most of us replace our steaming hot cups of coffee with cooler alternatives. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you have to give up on your daily caffeine fix—you’ll be glad to know that the city’s cafés serve a good variety of chilled coffee concoctions as well. We headed to Murray Hill to find the neighborhood’s best establishments for cold (or hot, if you so prefer!) coffee—here are our top three picks:

Perk Kafe | 162 East 37th Street

While it is a fairly new face in the neighborhood, Perk Kafe finds a mention on our list not just because of the delicious beverages they serve—we are also particularly impressed by the indie (hipster?) vibe in this place. Their iced coffees deserve special mention—made by Stumptown beans, these chilly beverages will put a spring in your step, no matter what the time of day may be. Visitors here also swear by their chocolate brioches, which perfectly complement their coffee.

Lucid Café | 311 Lexington Avenue

Lucid Café is a tiny coffee shop in the Murray Hill neighborhood—in fact, it is so tiny that you’d probably miss it if you weren’t looking out for it! But this shop is worth keeping an eye out for, because of their excellent coffee, which is good regardless of whether you drink it hot or cold. Made from Counter Culture beans, the coffee blends here are strong and flavorful—their iced lattes are particularly noteworthy, and their baked goods, while minimal, are definitely worth tasting.

2Beans | 100 Park Avenue

What better to go with coffee than some chocolate? Indulge in both of your guilty pleasures at 2Beans, where you are served flavorful coffee made by Illy, and chocolates that come from around the world. The coffee menu is pretty expansive, and the range of chocolates available here is also pretty impressive—from white chocolate truffles to chili-infused cocoa creations, you’re sure to find something that appeals to your palate at this fine Murray Hill establishment.
